R.P. McMurphy

Assignment: Write an essay (1-2 pages) that answers the following prompt:

How is McMurphy portrayed compared to other men on the ward, and what does this signify?

Your essay will be turned in on Jupiter and will only be accepted as a Juno Doc. It is due Oct 28th and is worth 50 points.

In order to write a good paper you must have a clear, strong, arguable thesis statement. It should be the last sentence of your introductory paragraph.

Each new paragraph should focus on one main idea, that is supported with a quote from the novel. Be sure to cite each quote with the author's name and page number in parenthesis after the quote.

For example: Kesey sets an eerie tone by opening the novel with a ominous line, "They're are out there" (Kesey 1).

Here is a good link to help you with citation questions: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/02/
Be sure to set up your quote with context and then explain the significance of the quote once it is stated.

You should have a concluding paragraph that restates the thesis in a different way and wraps your paper up.

Use: active voice, and present tense.
Avoid: passive voice, contractions, personal pronouns, and cliches.

Remember that writing is a process- take your time, make an outline, write and then re-write.

Good luck; I am looking forward to reading your essays.
