1. Discipline is absolutely necessary in most settings: 1
ReplyDeleteDiscipline is absolutely necessary in most settings, because everyone needs to follow rules and pay the appropriate consequence if they do not. Without constant discipline, people get away with awful things, and the world becomes more of a mess.
2. Most people are crazy in one way or another: 1
Everyone has a weird way about them, some quirk, some trait. No one is completely normal, and everyone is a little weird.
3. Those that are crazy/ mentally ill should be institutionalized:2
People who have mental problems should be institutionalized as long as they receive the help they need. Furthermore, mentally ill people could be a potential danger to society, and they should be in a ward until they can handle the real world
4. Laughter is an important part of life: 1
Laughter is what makes our days enjoyable, our lives fun, and our days merry. Without laughter, the world would be a sad, sad place
5. One person can change an established and ordered society: 3
One person can begin to change a society, but they could never do it entirely on their own. A revolutionary can begin a movement, but without support, they will not be able to make the movement a reality, simply because organized societies are too strong.
6. American culture reinforces stereotypes of masculinity and femininity: 2
Stereotypes are very strong in America, and though people are fighting to be rid of them, they will never be gone. If someone is not a stereotype, they are considered 'weird', because they do not fit the norms. Ironically, people are made fun of for being a stereotype.
7. Killing is never ok: 3
Killing is okay in dire situations: war, if someone/something is trying to kill you, hunting, etc.
8. Hate is inherent in human nature: 1
Humans are most definitely born with hate. We hate things from the moment we are born. Whether it be the bright lights of the delivery room, food, our toys, or other people, hate is a part of us, and always will be.
9. Good is inherent in human nature: 2
All people most likely have a moral sense, minuscule or gargantuan. Some people are so awful, you do not understand how they could have any thoughts of goodness in them, but you must know that everyone has their own opinions of what is good and right, and will act on them. Nobody is purely evil.
10. War is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs: 1
War is not the solution to our problems. It is not fair to the soldiers, their families, any bystanders caught in crossfires, or the world as a whole. War is awful, and it absolutely should be avoided at all costs.
11. Sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life: 2
Everyone must sacrifice something in order to succeed. No one has a complete sail through life. Everybody will have to lose money, friends, possessions, or family to make it where they want to go. It ain't fair, but it's true
12. Power corrupts those who possess it: 2
Power can corrupt most people who possess it. Saying it corrupts all powerful people may not be true. But, in the words of George Orwell, "absolute power corrupts absolutely."
13. People who are different are a threat: 3
Some people who are different can be a threat, but many people who are different can be amazing. Different means different, not bad.
14. Most problems can be solved through medicine and drugs: 4
Some problems can be solved by medicine and drugs, but many cannot. The loss of a loved one, a ruined relationship, and having no job, just to name a few, are problems that cannot be solved by drugs. Drugs can help people avoid their problems, but will not help solve them.
15. America is a prejudice country: 1
Everyone has prejudice about every single person they see. I do, too.
1. 2, I agree because discipline provides structure and structure provides safety, but I can see how too much discipline can result in limiting one’s freedom to an extreme, which is never a good thing
ReplyDelete2. 1, I strongly agree because everyone has a different personality that some might judge as crazy while others may not. There will always be one contrasting personality to your own that will think you are crazy.
3. 2, I agree because institutionalizing the mentally ill offers safety towards other members of society, but I believe institutionalizing the mentally ill that do not threaten the safety of society is unjust.
4. 1, I strongly agree. Laughter is crucial in the world that we live. It provides an escape from the hardships that humans endure and an opportunity to bring happiness into one’s life.
5. 2, I agree because an individual act, as seen in Harrison Bergeron, can partially break the structure of society. That act can also plant revolutionary ideas in the minds of other community members, and sometimes it can spark a large movement against an ordered society. Although, the only way to completely overturn the society is if that one individual act or belief caused involvement of other people as well.
6. 2, I agree. America reinforces gender stereotypes and their will always be people who believe in them greatly. Despite this, there are various movements to end gender stereotypes.
7. 3, I disagree. Killing might be required for one’s well-being. For example, killing may sometimes be necessary if your life is being threatened. I cannot think of any other reason why killing would be acceptable.
8. 1, I strongly agree. Hate, whether we like it or not, will always be present in human. One might try to resist hatred, but it is inevitable, as there will always be something that we do not like about our lives or that is impossible to change.
9. 1, I strongly agree. Good will always be present in human nature. Unlike hatred, good is much harder to recognize and it is much easier to change, but it will always be there when you need it. One can find good in everything and anything.
10. 1, I strongly agree. As dark and grave as it is, war is a silly concept. No one benefits from war and it affects everyone who goes near it in an awful way.
11. 4, I strongly disagree. Why would one have to sacrifice something in order to lead a productive life? My personal definition for productivity does not involve how much money you make or how hard you work at one particular thing. Having a productive life should not require giving up something. If anything, one should try to gain as much as possible before he or she dies.
12. 2, I agree. Power can only corrupt the one who possesses it if he or she allows it. Power can be used in a brilliant way, but it can also be used in a way that causes pain and suffering.
13. 3, I disagree. Being different is a beautiful thing. Everyone is different. As cliché as this sounds, it is true. Even though being different is good, being different can also be bad, in a sense that it means harm to other people.
14. 4, I strongly disagree. Medicine and drugs should be solely used to cure legitimate medical issues. Facing conflict and being true to oneself are the best methods of resolving problems that occur in one’s life. Medicine and drugs may provide an escape, but they do not provide an answer.
15. 2, I agree. Prejudice is found everywhere. There is no way to terminate prejudice and America is one of the many places where it can be found.
ReplyDeleteStatement #1: 1
Discipline is necessary in MOST settings. However, sometimes it is not needed. Discipline is very import because without it, people would not follow rules and there would be no order.
Statement #2: 1
I strongly agree that everyone is crazy in one way or another. Everybody has a strange quirk. Just like Dr. Suess once said... “We are all a little weird.”
Statement #3: 2
I agree with this statement, but it depends on the specific situation. If their mental illness makes them violent or puts others in an unsafe situation, then they should be institutionalized. Also, those who are institutionalized should be treated with TLC and should ALWAYS receive the help and respect that they need and deserve. Yet, if they are harmless then they should not.
Statement #4: 1
Laughter is one of the most important things in life. Without it our world would be drastically different, and not in a good way. When you are laughing, you are happy. Happiness is the key factor in leading a good life. Plus, laughter is contagious! :)
Statement #5: 3
I think that one person can be a PART of the change in an established and ordered society. However, one person can’t do it alone. They need support from others in order to make a meaningful change.
Statement #6: 3
I disagree with this statement because I do not think that society REINFORCES stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. I do think that they are present in society but culture does not reinforce them.
Statement #7: 2
Although I don’t think that killing is good, sometimes, killing is okay. For example, when somebody kills in self defense then I think that its alright.
Statement #8: 1
Hate is inherent in human nature. To me, this is very true. Hate is found in infants and the elderly. It is there from one’s birth and hate will be buried deep inside of them forever.
Statement #9: 1
On the other hand, good is also inherent in human nature. Everyone is born with a sense of morals and what is right and what is wrong. Although this “moral code” is unique to each individual, it is always there.
Statement #10: 1
I strongly agree that war is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs. Whenever possible, war should be avoided. I do not think that anything good comes from war. Lives are lost and families are left broken because of it. If possible, everything should be done peacefully, without war.
Statement #11: 1
Sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life. Everyone must make sacrifices throughout their life in order to be productive. For example, if one wants to become wealthy, they must sacrifice family time in order to work.
Statement #12: 3
This statement depends entirely on the person in power. Although it is possible, everyone handles power in a different way and while it may corrupt some people, it could also do the opposite to others.
Statement #13: 4
Like the previous statement, this also depends on the person. If the person that is different accepts those who are not similar to him or her, then they are not a threat. However, if they want everyone to be like them, then they are dangerous.
Statement #14: 4
Although some problems can, most problems can not be solved by medicine or drugs. In fact, drugs cause problems, not solve them.
Statement #15: 1
America is a prejudice country. Everybody judges and makes assumptions about one another, whether they admit it or not.
1.) Two. Some level of discipline can be beneficial in just about everything. However, it is not always necessary.
ReplyDelete2.) Two. Everyone has their own personal eccentricities. Nobody thinks or acts in a totally rational way.
3.) Three. The degree and kind of mental illness the patient has might require institutionalization, or it might not. For the most part, though, institutionalization should be a last-ditch response reserved for cases when all attempts at treatment and reintegration into society have failed.
4.) One. Laughter is incredibly important. Life can be very hard, and some lightness and humor is a large part of what makes it bearable.
5.) One. There are innumerable precedents for this sort of thing happening; Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi are two examples.
6.) Two. Practically every culture has some sort of masculine/feminine stereotype reinforced by elements of that culture. American culture is no exception.
7.) Three. Killing is sometimes necessary, as self-defense, for example. For the most part, though, it is absolutely unacceptable.
8.) One. Hatred is built into our DNA just like any other emotion is.
9.) Two. Good is also a part of human nature. Altruism is, by definition, goodness caused by pure innate desire to do good, without any ulterior motive. If good were not part of human nature, altruism could not exist.
10.) One. War is the single greatest cause of suffering in existence. There is no such thing as a just war; every war has evil on both sides, to some degree. Therefore, it should absolutely be avoided at all costs.
11.) One. Anyone who wants to lead a productive life must work hard to achieve that, and sacrifice is an integral part of hard work. It is totally impractical for anyone to expect that they can achieve something without giving up anything else.
12.) One. Power is certainly a corrupting influence. There is a natural human desire to abuse power. There are even studies that have shown that people with more power are less empathetic towards their fellow human beings. There are innumerable examples of people in positions of power using their power selfishly.
13.) Four. People who are different are not dangerous simply because they are different. There is a natural human instinct to be wary and suspicious of anything or anyone that is not familiar, but this instinct does not have much of a foundation in logic.
14.) Four. The ability of medicine to solve problems is very limited. Medicine can cure diseases, but it cannot stop wars or mend broken economies.
15.) Two. Like any people, the American people have their prejudices. Everyone has their beliefs in the inferiority of some group of people. Americans are not an exception to this; as is the case anywhere else in the world, America has its sexists, racists, homophobes, and other bigots of various types.
1) 1. Being behaved in a social setting is the way the american society works.
ReplyDelete2) 2. Everyone can become obsessed over something, but not necessarily “mentally ill” about it.
3) 2. Mentally ill people can be a danger to others, but some can do better if they are not institutionalized.
4) 1. Absolutely because one should be happy and laughter is a way of being happy
5) 3. It takes more than one person to have a big impact.
6) 2. Yes, I agree because of the way woman and men are portrayed in advertisements, clothes, what they eat.
7) 3. Most of the time it is not okay, however, there are certain times when if someone is about to kill many people(or threatening ones life) then it is okay.
8) 1. No one can love/like everything and can have trouble finding positivity in something they hate.
9) 2. I agree because it depends on the person, but most people want to help others and want to have a positive impact on someone
10) 1. War and killing are terrible, and should not be used just to prove a point.
11) 1. A person needs to pick and choose what they want to do, they have to give up some things in order to pursue others.
12) 3. I disagree because it can if one has too much power, but it can be good if the powerful person uses it in the right way
13) 4. I strongly disagree because people who are different are less of threat because they cannot be compared as easily to a person. Difference is good for society.
14) 4. Drugs do not ever solve conflicts, but they can help with mental disabilities if they are used in the right way.
15) 1. Yes, whether it is discrimination or reverse discrimination, it is a part of human nature to favor one side.
1) 2. Discipline is important in a public setting, but at home, it should be much less severe.
ReplyDelete2) 1. We don't know what’s going on in other people's minds, but to be honest, if we did, most, if not all of the general population would be considered "insane".
3) 2. If they are capable of hurting themselves or other people, yes, they should be institutionalized.
4) 1. People laugh when they’re happy, and people like being happy. Who’s to disagree with that?
5) 1. Everything starts with one person, whether it’s good or bad. The United States of America probably started with one single man complaining about the British to his friends.
6) 1. America tries not to reinforce stereotypes of heroic, masculine men, or beautiful women with perfect figures, but America “tries not to” isn’t the same as America doesn’t.
7) 3. God tells us “thou shall not kill”. Unfortunately, sometimes it is necessary. Good American men fight for us every day, and kill only when necessary.
8) 1. Humans are the only animals that kill for no reason. Tigers kill, lions kill, bears kill, but they all do it to survive. Humans kill out of spite, jealousy, and rage.
9) 1. The most heartless, bloodthirsty, dangerous man in the world has a little good in them. Yin and Yang shows us how there is a little good in the worst person in the world, and a little bad in the kindest man in the world. Humans are strange.
10) 4. America wasn’t formed through flowers and rainbows, it was formed from war. That isn’t saying that war should be used for any and everything, but when the freedom of millions of people were at stake, it was.
11) 1. Sacrifice is inevitable. It could be sacrificing your time watching TV to study for at test, or it could be letting a man die so thousands more can live.
12) 2. We don’t know. I don’t trust politicians because politics is a cutthroat world, and if you managed to make it to the top, you must be a cutthroat person. You might say they are “resourceful” or that they “know what’s best for the country” but the people in positions of power got there out of there own personal ambition and nothing else.
13) 4. We are all different. There is no human exactly alike in the world, so that would mean everyone is a threat except for you. If everyone in the world was exactly alike, it would be more peaceful because everyone would think the exact same, but it’d be a lot more boring too.
14) 3. Modern medicine is extremely advanced, however, there are still incurable diseases that cannot be treated. Also, depression can be helped by medicine and/or drugs, but cannot be “solved” by medicine and/or drugs.
15) 1. This applies not only to America, but to every country in the world. There isn’t a single country in the world that isn’t prejudiced against something, whether it is gender, religion, race, or anything in-between.
1) 3. I disagree because although discipline is important, making mistakes by not being disciplined is important in the process of knowing what's right from wrong. If there was too much discipline, people wouldn't make their own decisions, but the decisions they are wanted to make.
ReplyDelete2) 2. I agree with everyone being crazy one way or another because people may have different opinions on what "crazy" actually is. A person may be crazy in one person's eye, but they may seem normal to another person.
3) 3. I believe all that are mentally ill should be institutionalized because they all should have the option of being able to get better. If everyone that was mentally ill wasn't institutionalized, there may be more incidents with those people compared to someone who had the opportunity to be institutionalized.
4) 1. Laughter is an important part of life because it keeps people smiling and happy. Laughter is also important because as the saying goes, "laughter is the best medicine" meaning that if someone is upset about something, if they laugh, they could feel a little better.
5) 1. One person can make a huge difference in an organized society. They can change an entire society's opinion on a matter or a way they are living.
6) 3. Although American culture may mask the stereotypes of Masculinity and femininity, there still is many stereotypes that may never be diminished, but American culture helps to take some of the stereotypes away
7) 3. Killing in some situations allow America to become a better country such as killing in war. Also, killing someone by self defense I believe is also acceptable because you are allowed to defend yourself and if your life is in danger, you are allowed to do whatever it takes to save your own life.
8) 2. Hate is inherit in human nature because everyone has enemies. countries have different enemies that they fight against, as does a single human being.
9) 2. Although someone may seem evil, or bad in a person's eyes, human beings, even the bad ones, have a good side to them.
10) 3. Although war is a horrible thing and it ruins many of peoples' lives, it is used to solve big world conflicts or even a country's conflict within itself. I believe that war is a bad thing, and it ruins countries, but it is a way to solve problems.
11) 2. Sacrifice is essential in a human being's life. Every person will be forced to make many sacrifices throughout their lives although they may not want to make them.
12) 3. Not everyone who essentially has power becomes corrupt because of it. There have been outstanding leaders in American history that haven't become corrupt because they possessed the power.
13) 4. People that are different are not a threat. everyone being the same is a bigger threat. Being cosmopolitan in culture is key to survival. Being the same causes communities to crumble
14) 3. Not all problems can be solved through medicine and drugs. Although medicines can help sure infectious diseases, it can't be used to solve personal conflicts or conflicts between countries.
15) 1. American is a prejudice country. I agree with the statement because every person makes assumptions about other races or ethnicities. Whether people realize it or not, it exists everywhere.
1. Discipline is absolutely necessary in most settings (2)
ReplyDelete-I agree that there are times when discipline is one of the utmost important thing in most situations, but sometimes is provides to strict of an environment. People who are overpowering disciplinarians, are the people that we want to keep away from power
2. Most people are crazy in one way or another (1)
-Every single person in the world has something that makes them special. Their strange oddity helps make the world diverse. If everyone was normal, the world would be boring.
3. Those that are crazy/ mentally ill should be institutionalized (3)
-I am on the border about this, because there are so many people who are mentally ill and harmless, but there are also some who are dangerous. I think that institutionalized people who are not a threat to the environment, is unfair. Also many of the crazy killers that were found to be insane, had illnesses that weren't easily detected. Would every american be tested to check for insanity?
4. Laughter is an important part of life (1)
-I strongly agree because laughter makes our lives longer and helps us live life to the fullest. Passing through life being happy is one of the things that makes life worth living.
5. One person can change an established and ordered society (2)
-I agree with this statement because people like Martin Luther King Jr., changed the world. He had people who believed in him, but he carried out his dream.
6. American culture reinforces stereotypes of masculinity and femininity (2)
- Even though people strive to remove the stereotypes that root people, they probably will never be gone. I wouldn't stay America reinforces the stereotypes, but the need to be perfect, has been shown in all of our lives.
7. Killing is never ok (3)
-There is a difference between killing for fun and killing because you have to. As good a juicy steak is, it isn't necessary for us to eat it while a soldier needs to kill people that threaten America.
8. Hate is inherent in human nature (3)
-I don't think that babies are born with hate, I think it is something the world teaches us. Infants are innocent to the world, they don't understand the concepts of good and evil, therefore the can't hate. As people grow older, hate is molded into our life style by disappointment and anger.
9. Good is inherent in human nature (3)
-Babies don't understand good and evil. They do something their mom likes, she rewards them, and the baby learns to keep doing that to get the reward. The concept of being good, is instilled into a baby's mind by its parents.
ReplyDelete10. War is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs (1)
-Nothing good comes from war. People are killed, countries left in shambles, and sometimes the problem isn't even resolved. Avoiding war at all costs, unless America is attacked, is the best option.
11. Sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life (2)
-No person's life is perfect, no matter what is looks like. Everyone loses something in their life, something that was precious to them. In order to become successful, people have to give important things up.
12. Power corrupts those who possess it (2)
-This is partially true, because people are greedy and hungry for power. With power comes responsibility. If one is strong willed enough to look past themselves, and dedicate their time and money to others, the power will not corrupt them.
13. People who are different are a threat (4)
-Everyone is different, so that implies that everyone is a threat, which is false. People can't be judged on their differences, because that's what makes everybody so unique.
14. Most problems can be solved through medicine and drugs (4)
-There are so many more problems today that have nothing to do with medicine. Medicine might be able to cure a virus, or even cure some forms of cancer, but it can't create world peace or help the people in need.
15. America is a prejudice country (3)
-By saying that America was prejudice, you'd being referring to the whole country, which is incorrect. Many people accept other's differences, but there are also people who don't.
1.) Discipline is absolutely necessary in most settings: 1
ReplyDeleteHumans are inclined to exercise audacity and push limits. In order to create a functional society that protects and benefits the greater good rather than the individual, it is important to discipline those who break societal rules.
2.) Most people are crazy in one way or another: 1
Mental stability is inconsistent within humans. It is very easy for a mind that is sound on a regular basis to collapse under the weight of extreme emotion.
3.) Those that are crazy/ mentally ill should be institutionalized: 3
There are very specific scenarios in which institutionalization is necessary. As said before, most humans do not possess the capacity to bear extreme emotions. For those who have a particular problem with dealing with emotions, there are certainly other measures that must be taken in order to help those with mental illness deal with their condition. Those who both are classified as “extreme” in terms of their illness and do not respond well to initial treatment must them be institutionalized in order to preserve the safety of the general public.
4.) Laughter is an important part of life: 1
Life is a fine balance between contemplation and joy. Neither trumps the other. Therefore, laughter, provided it is in balance with seriousness and contemplation, is not only necessary but also important.
5.) One person can change an established and ordered society: 1
All major changes that occur throughout history begin on an individual level, as society, establishments, and groups are all made up of individuals.
6.) American culture reinforces stereotypes of masculinity and femininity: 1
American culture undoubtedly reinforces stereotypes. We are constantly surrounded by media that exploits ideals of how men and women are supposed to look and act. It is a vicious cycle of the media portraying what the ideal gender is supposed to be like, the general public accepting this stereotype, and the media responding by reinforcing more stereotypes that appeal to the general public, as stereotypes is now all that the public sees and wants.
7.) Killing is never okay: 0-10
This idea cannot be rated on an arbitrary 1-4 scale. The Ten Commandments says that it is not okay at all, where as utilitarianism says that perhaps it is okay. It all comes down to the value of human life, and that is something that can be easily argued and disputed. Would you switch the train to the track with one person, or should two people die? Is the value of human life infinite or is two more than one and therefore should be prioritized? There is no answer to this question.
8.) Hate is inherent in human nature: 2
ReplyDeleteWe can never know for sure. How much of human nature is nature and how much is nurture?
9.) Good is inherent in human nature: 2
*See answer 8*
10.) War is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs: 2
Much of the war that we witness is first covered in layers of hatred, power abuse, and sadism. However, war in our world has become a necessary trend in order to compete with one another. By waging war, governments protect their own population. War is evidently not the ideal, but in our world as we know it, it is realistic and inevitable.
11.) Sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life: 1
A productive life is driven by hard work. In order to lead a truly productive life, one must give up down time and fun in order to make more time for hard work.
12.) Power corrupts those who possess it: 2
This is usually the case, but this cannot be a blanket statement used for all scenarios. There are undoubtedly honest people who want power for the right reasons. With this in mind, there is a small percentage of people who will not be swayed by the temptation of power, simply because they see that power has limits.
13.) People who are different are a threat: 2
This depends on the nature of the difference. Diversity, on one hand, is wonderfully beneficial to a society, and is welcomed. However, we do see wars erupting on account of religious and cultural difference. Though this is caused by human prejudice, its basis lies in difference. This indicates while difference alone cannot be seen as a threat, when paired with the horrific aspects of human nature can be devastating.
14.) Most problems can be solved through medicine and drugs: 3
This depends on the problem. Medicine and drugs can be useful only for health issues that must be treated specifically with specific drugs. When used anywhere else without the intent of healing a specific illness, drugs and medicine can soon become harmful, and even create problems.
15.) America is a prejudice country: 2
America is not openly prejudiced, but the opinions and actions of the general public indicate that prejudice is a normal part of society. We often hear stories of oppression scattered sporadically throughout the media, and it is so easy to profile people based on their religion, race, gender, etc. Therefore, while not openly so, America is undoubtedly prejudiced.
1) Discipline is absolutely nessecary in most settings(1) I strongly agree with this statement because people should have to follow rules and have manners and suffer consequences if they aren't to do so
ReplyDelete2) Most people are crazy in one way or another (2) I agree with this, but not completely. I agree that each person has differences that are expressed in different ways and to different extents, causing most people to be crazy in some way
3)Those that are crazy/ mentally ill should be institutionalized (3) I don't agree with this completely because there are different times where a person should be institutionalized, based off of the extent of mental illness.
4)Laughter is an important part of life (1) I agree with this completely. I think laughter is a sign of happiness and I think each person should have some happiness in their life and be able to express it
5)One person can change an established and ordered society (3) I agree with this to some extent. I agree that if the person has enough force and intelligence they could create a new society based off of their own rules
6) American culture reinforces stereotypes of masculinity and felinity (3) I don't agree with this completely because it is based off of the scenario it is involved in. American culture isn't strictly based off of stereotypes, so i do not agree with this
7)Killing is never ok (3) This is also based off of the scenario. For example, we kill cows for food, but killing a person just to kill, is not ok. Killing in war, to fight for a country is not bad and is helping us.
8)Hate is inherent in human nature (4) I believe we form hatred for things or people based off of their actions and words, causing us to come off with more of a negative world view.
9)Good is inherent in human nature(2) We come into this world with good intentions. We form habits that make us look different from who we are on the inside, coming off as negative or bad.
10) War is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs (4) I think if war is the only way to settle differences throughout territories, then it is necessary.
11)sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life (2) I mostly agree with this because i think in order to get things done in a productive manner, you must give up the things you want to do, while doing the things you have to do.
12)Power corrupts people who posses it (3) i partly agree with this because people can overuse their power and use it too much to their advantage causing them to ruin things for themselves or other people.
13)People who are different are a threat (2) i mostly agree with this because people who are unique and different are showing a sign of strength and integrity and not everyone has that trait, causing a threat.
14)Most problems can be solved through medicine and drugs (5) i do not agree with this because i think most problems that aren't physical, can be solved through talking to people and thinking to yourself.
15)america is a prejudice country(3) i partly agree with this because i think that it is prejudice quietly, not openly so we don't all realize it
1. I strongly agree because people do need rules to follow or people would just be doing what ever they wanted to.
ReplyDelete2. I agree that most people are crazy in one way or another because different people have their own personalities and some can be crazy in a funny way or a different way.
3. I agree that those who are crazy or mentally should be institutionalized because some could be dangerous. If they are not dangerous then they should have somebody be with them at all times.
4. I strongly agree that laughter is an important part of life because if there were no laughter everyone would be sad and and mad.
5. I disagree that one person can change and establish and ordered society because many people can change and establish an order in society not just one person.
6. I agree that American culture in for the stereotypes of masculinity and femininity in movies, books, magazines, and more that people pay attention to everyday.
7. I disagree that killing is never okay because it depends how or why the person is killing someone, or if it self-defense, or if they're just killing themselves.

ReplyDelete8. 1- Hate is inherent in human nature
ReplyDeleteHate is in no way a part of human nature. It is a feeling, and like most feeling you have them for specific reasons, not because you are born with it. In many cases, hate for someone or something is built up over time, not in a person’s nature.
9. 2- Good is inherent in human nature
As I said previously, nobody is specifically born with feeling towards anything. But, most people feel the need to please people and be the best they can be; by being a good person, it is easier to achieve that goal.
10. 2- War is a horror for all involved and should be avoided at all costs
My initial reaction would obviously be “war is bad, always avoid it.” After pondering this statement, I concluded that war is not necessarily bad. Of course it may include many fatalities and create a financial crisis for a nation, but it allows people to fight for what they believe in, even if it mean the ultimate sacrifice. And to me, that is the ultimate way to express devotion.
11. 4- Sacrifice is essential to leading a productive life
For a person to have a productive life, they will have to work in order to achieve their goals. And for most people, they don’t reach their goals without tremendous amounts of effort. Not everything in life will go as planned, most people have to sacrifice certain parts of their life in order to thrive in others. Many people today sacrifice family time to go to work, because in their eyes, having a successful job is being productive. For others, staying home with their family and being happy is more productive.
12. 3- Power corrupts those who possess it
Through out all of history, famous kings, queens, pharaohs, and other rulers would abuse their authority. When people are given power, especially over other people, they will try to push and abuse it in order to achieve their ultimate craving, more power. Power can change a person for the worst and corrupts the souls of people who misuse it.
13. 1- People who are different are a threat
Society would not be able to function without having different people. If there is variety in a population, it will not be a threat, it only allows a community to thrive and reach it’s full potential.
14. 1- Most problems can be solved through medicine and drugs
Problems that most people have cannot be solved by medicine. Medicine can only help people feel better or not experience symptoms, but could never eliminate the illness. That is why so many people who stop taking their medication still suffer from their problems before.
15. 3- America is a prejudice country
America as a country can be very prejudice, many people make assumptions about a person because of their appearance; race, ethnicity, religion, gender, even if someone has tattoos. It is very common for people and societies to favor one specific side before truly knowing an individual. In most cases, homeless people are looked down and judged by people who don’t even bother to get to know their story. They assume that they were not a hard worker and gave up on life and deserve what little they have. In reality, their story is much deeper, and maybe they don’t deserve the life they have.
1.3. Discipline is necessary in many circumstances, but not absolutely necessary. There will always be a time and place where expectations are not so strict that you must think about every action.
ReplyDelete2.1. Everyone will be different in their own way. There will always be something that makes someone stand out from the rest that might be considered crazy or weird.
3.2 I agree that the mentally ill should be institutionalized in order to keep themselves and others safe and also so there is a place where their needs can be catered to.
4.1. “Laughter is the best medicine.” Laughter is an important part of human communication and also just letting go every once in a while.
5.1. There have always been individuals in history who have been able to change and move the status quo of society by themselves.
6.1. It seems that everyone is very aware of what is considered boyish and what is girly. These stereotypes are introduced very early in life by parents and continue to grow with peer pressure.
7.4. Murder is never ok; everyone seems to agree with that, but killing has always been acceptable and still is in certain conditions: self-defense and as a punishment for crimes.
8.1. Hate is part of human nature because people will always feel hatred, or some degree of hatred, towards someone who has wronged them.
9.1. Good is part of human nature because there will always be a connection and a desire to help those who are in need, like the old, or the very young.
10.1. The unnecessary sacrifice of life should always be avoided at all costs, but there will always be times when war is unavoidable in order to protect your people.
11.2. There will always be sacrifices in order to achieve success. Most of the time this sacrifice is time and energy.
12.2. Power can corrupt some people who do not know what to do with it. They begin to believe they can do whatever they want and get away with it.
13.4. Just being different than other people is not a threat in and of itself. People who are a threat are often characterized by their difference.
14.2. Many drugs have been developed that can alter many parts of the human condition and mind and our minds and bodies are all of who we are.
15.1. There is prejudice in America against people who disagree and are different than what one party believes.
