Cuckoo's Nest Project

Each student will choose 5 significant quotes/ passages from each of the following characters:
  1. Chief Bromden
  2. Nurse Ratched
  3. R.P. McMurphy
  4. The staff- this can be broken up in any way you see fit.
  5. Any of the other characters/patients on the ward (Dale Harding, Billy Bibbit, Chief Tee Ah Millatoona, Sefelt, Frederickson, Martini, Cheswick, Ellis, Colonel Matterson, Max Taber, Candy,etc.)- this too can be broken up in any manner you choose.
  6. Motifs- choose 3 motifs and a quote or two for each.
Once you curate your quotes, you will create a blog post that includes:
  1. The quotes/ passages for each character and a brief (2-3 sentence explanation of your selected quotes).
  2. A picture of each character or a representation of each character/ motif.
  3. A paragraph about each character: who they are, why they are important to the overall message of the novel, and how they advance a theme of the work. Each paragraph should start with a thesis statement, set up an example/ quote, properly include an appropriate quote, and explain it. Think about the messages and themes Kesey is expressing in this novel as you prepare and write your paragraph.
  4. For The Staff and Other Characters sections you will write a paragraph that compares and contrasts characters from each section and how they too convey a message and theme of the work.
  5. For motifs- you will write a shorter paragraph (6 sentence range) about each motif and how it helps to advance a theme of the novel.

This assignment is worth 100 points and is due Monday, December 8th.
