Each student will choose 5 significant quotes/ passages from each of the following characters:
- Chief Bromden
- Nurse Ratched
- R.P. McMurphy
- The staff- this can be broken up in any way you see fit.
- Any of the other characters/patients on the ward (Dale Harding, Billy Bibbit, Chief Tee Ah Millatoona, Sefelt, Frederickson, Martini, Cheswick, Ellis, Colonel Matterson, Max Taber, Candy,etc.)- this too can be broken up in any manner you choose.
- Motifs- choose 3 motifs and a quote or two for each.
Once you curate your quotes, you will create a blog post that includes:
- The quotes/ passages for each character and a brief (2-3 sentence explanation of your selected quotes).
- A picture of each character or a representation of each character/ motif.
- A paragraph about each character: who they are, why they are important to the overall message of the novel, and how they advance a theme of the work. Each paragraph should start with a thesis statement, set up an example/ quote, properly include an appropriate quote, and explain it. Think about the messages and themes Kesey is expressing in this novel as you prepare and write your paragraph.
- For The Staff and Other Characters sections you will write a paragraph that compares and contrasts characters from each section and how they too convey a message and theme of the work.
- For motifs- you will write a shorter paragraph (6 sentence range) about each motif and how it helps to advance a theme of the novel.
This assignment is worth 100 points and is due Monday, December 8th.
